Every day, cars, motorcycles, buses and trucks travel along the roads that connect villages and communities across the Simandou corridor. As traffic continues to increase, a simple action can sometimes make all the difference: slowing down when approaching a village, anticipating potential hazards, observing speed limits or checking a vehicle’s condition before setting off.
To support safer travel, SimFer provided defensive driving training to 200 community drivers in the prefectures of Beyla, Macenta, Kérouané and Forécariah. Over several days, participants strengthened their knowledge of risk prevention, hazard awareness, speed management, compliance with road traffic regulations and driver fatigue management.

Beyond the technical skills gained, the training also helped strengthen a culture of safety built on personal responsibility.
"This training has taught me how to better recognise road hazards and adopt safer driving habits. What I have learned, I now want to share with other drivers in my community."
Mamady
Heavy and light vehicle driver, Beyla
Mr Camara, drivers’ representative in Macenta, shared a similar view:
"Today, I raise awareness among young drivers about the dangers of speeding, mobile phone use while driving and the importance of checking the condition of their tyres before setting off."
Mr Camara
Drivers’ representative, Macenta

By working alongside communities and local stakeholders, these training sessions help promote safer behaviours and foster a culture of prevention that is essential to improving road safety.
At the end of the training, each participant received a certificate. However, the real impact will be seen on the roads through drivers who are more aware of risks and committed to sharing safe driving practices with those around them, helping to make roads safer for everyone.
