Guinean youth takes flight with ESSOR

Along the trails of the Simandou Corridor, a new momentum is being felt. It’s not just the movement of machinery at construction sites, but also the emergence of young people, driven by renewed ambition. Since May 2025, Rio Tinto Guinea has been bringing this momentum to life through ESSOR, a program designed to uncover talent and prepare young people to become the builders of tomorrow.

ESSOR is much more than a name. It’s a vision: to bring universities closer to the professional world, to transform ideas into concrete projects, and to make each workshop a launching pad for the future.

Kindia, starting point of a collective adventure

It all began in Kindia. 138 students from three institutions answered the call. In lecture halls, they explored the fundamentals of leadership, communication, and project management. How can we get to know each other better to collaborate better? How can we structure an idea and make it achievable? The answers emerged through discussions, workshops, and enthusiastic glances.

Artificial intelligence as an ally

In Mamou and Labé, ESSOR continued its journey. Artificial intelligence was included in the discussions, not as a distant technology, but as an accessible tool capable of boosting productivity and informing career choices. Students learned how to write impactful resumes, position themselves in the job market, and consider AI as a lever for opportunities.À Mamou et Labé, ESSOR a poursuivi sa route.

Inspired, engaged young people

What stands out are the testimonials. Young people who leave with more confidence, a clearer vision of their future, and sometimes even the desire to become ambassadors for the program. They want to share, inspire, and spread what they’ve learned far beyond the walls of their university.

ESSOR continues on its way

The program doesn’t stop there. New workshops are being prepared along the Simandou corridor, with targeted themes: entrepreneurship, local content, technology, and professional integration. These choices are in line with the opportunities of the Simandou project and the aspirations of the students.

A mine, but above all a future

Through ESSOR, Rio Tinto isn’t just building a mine. We’re building bridges between generations, between knowledge and expertise, between dreams and their realization. A tangible contribution to inclusive and sustainable development, where every young Guinean can find their path, their place, and their ESSOR.
