Across mining operations, it is not uncommon to encounter machines as tall as a two-storey building, capable of hauling hundreds of tonnes of ore in a single journey. These steel giants operate alongside hydraulic excavators, light vehicles and personnel moving around the mine at a constant pace. In such an environment, every manoeuvre must be carried out with precision, and every decision matters to ensure a safe working environment for all. That is why, before taking the controls of our mining equipment, SimFer operators undergo training using advanced simulators that faithfully replicate the working environment in which they will operate.
Through these simulators, trainees can practise identifying hazards, responding to unexpected situations and dealing with a variety of operational scenarios. They develop essential reflexes, improve their decision-making skills and gain confidence before operating real equipment.

One of the key advantages of simulation-based training is its ability to cater to operators of all experience levels.
Beginners learn the fundamentals of the profession in a safe and supportive environment. Operators with previous experience strengthen their technical capabilities, while more experienced operators can refine their techniques and maintain a high standard of competence.
Trainees become familiar with XCMG XDE130 and XDE260 mining haul trucks, the Komatsu PC5500 hydraulic excavator and the Komatsu WA1200 wheel loader.
The simulator not only teaches them how to operate this equipment but also helps them understand how each machine behaves under different operating conditions. In addition, they become familiar with the controls, procedures and specific working requirements associated with each piece of equipment.
The use of immersive simulation contributes to improved operational safety, enhanced operator productivity, reduced risk of equipment damage, greater consistency in training standards, and objective assessment of operator competence in a completely risk-free environment.

By integrating advanced simulation technologies into our training programmes, we are investing in the development of local talent while laying the foundations for an operational culture built on safety, performance and excellence.
