Beyla, Republic of Guinea – Simfer, the joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto, and Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH), has today announced the official handover of three new facilities to benefit the communities of Beyla. Comprising two health posts and a youth centre, these facilities will contribute to improving the living conditions of local communities.
In its commitment to enhancing the well-being of the communities surrounding the Simandou project, Simfer has invested over 5.3 billion Guinean francs in the construction of two health posts for the communities of Beyla. Located in the localities of Moribadou and Traoréla, these health facilities will improve access to quality healthcare while helping to prevent potential health crises in the region. Each health post includes main buildings, accommodation for the heads of the posts, water supply boreholes, parking spaces, solar panels for energy self-sufficiency, and other essential equipment to ensure the efficient delivery of healthcare services.
At the same time, the youth centre in Nionsomoridou was also inaugurated. Constructed at a cost of nearly 2.6 billion Guinean francs, this modern and versatile facility will serve as a space for development and personal growth for the youth of the locality. The fully equipped centre includes a main building with a capacity of 200 seats, a refurbished multifunctional building for women, parking facilities, latrines, a generator, and solar panels for public lighting.
More than just a facility, the Nionsomoridou youth centre is envisioned as an ideal space for dialogue, capacity building, and ongoing reflection, fostering harmonious development and enabling the personal fulfilment of future generations.
Chris Aitchison, General Manager of Simfer, stated: “We are extremely proud to inaugurate these essential facilities for the communities of Beyla. These two health posts and this youth centre are tangible examples of our commitment to the well-being and development of local communities. By investing in these projects, we aim not only to improve current living conditions but also to build a better future for generations to come.”
Committed to maximising the benefits of the Simandou project for local communities, Simfer continues to pursue its goal of sustainably supporting local populations by delivering high-quality infrastructure and actively contributing to the improvement of living conditions for those living near the Simandou project.
