SimFer, a joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto and the Chalco Iron Ore Holdings (CIOH) consortium led by Chinalco, continues to embed safety as a fundamental pillar of the Simandou Project.
On the occasion of the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, on 28 April 2026, SimFer joined a global movement aimed at protecting people, preventing workplace accidents and occupational diseases, and strengthening a sustainable safety culture across operations.

This year, SimFer chose to place a particular focus on psychosocial health and wellbeing, recognising that safe and effective operations depend not only on physical protection, but also on psychological safety, respect, inclusion, and the ability for everyone to speak up and seek support when needed.
In this context, SimFer encouraged its leaders throughout the day to engage simple, open and human conversations with their teams, to strengthen listening, trust and the prevention of psychosocial risks. These conversations, grounded in existing tools and practices, aimed to further embed wellbeing into everyday safety behaviours.
On this occasion, Leon Payne, Senior Manager Health and Safety at SimFer, said: “Strong safety performance depends on people feeling supported, respected and safe to speak up. By taking the time to listen and connect, we strengthen trust, prevention and the foundations of a safe working environment.”
SimFer reiterates that psychosocial risks, while sometimes invisible, are real and can have a significant impact on people’s health, safety and performance. Small, consistent actions, such as active listening, care and the early recognition of signs of distress, contribute to creating a safer and healthier working environment for everyone.
By marking the World Day for Safety and Health at Work, SimFer reaffirms its commitment to safety, respect and the protection of its people, recognising psychosocial wellbeing as a key enabler of safety and a critical component of strengthening its safety culture in support of safe operations and sustainable performance.
