Rio Tinto SimFer officially hands over five schools to the Beyla education authorities

Schools will help improve access to education for more than 1,700 students from communities living near the Simandou Project.

Beyla, Republic of Guinea – SimFer, the joint venture between the Government of the Republic of Guinea, Rio Tinto, and the CIOH consortium led by Chinalco, today officially handed over five schools to the communities of Beyla Sobakono, Kamandou, Nionsomoridou, Beyla, and Bangalidou.

These five schools help improve access to education in the region and provide students with a safer, more inclusive, and adapted educational environment. Together, these schools represent a total of 30 classrooms and can host 1,700 students; they also have 5 boreholes providing access to drinking water, latrine blocks, and housing for school directors to support school management.

Tanja Rasmussen, General Manager CSP at SimFer who attended the event, said: “The schools we are renovating or building in the region are helping to improve access to education and paving the way for better economic and social opportunities. We want to ensure that the Simandou project generates tangible and sustainable benefits for our communities. By investing in children and young people in the areas where we operate, we aim to help them unlock their potential, build the skills they need for the future, and seize the opportunities that will enable them to contribute to Guinea’s long-term economic and social development.”
